Starbucks DIY Christmas Trees

Welcome to the finale!  This is the moment for which I’ve been waiting (all year)!  Here are my three upcycled Starbucks Christmas trees!

This is the final ornament in the series–a lovely little cone, below (a.k.a mussie tussie), to see where I got all of my inspiration (for all of the ornaments, really) see my Pinterest board.

A brief “how to”:  Using the band, cut out a V shape to make the largest cone you can, centering the mermaid, overlap and glue to make your cone (I used Tacky Glue and a clothespin to hold it until the glue was dry.

Take a scrap of a coffee filter and cut fringe into the top and bottom and glue around the edge of the cone.  At each side of the cone, using a 1/8″ hole punch, punch holes for the hanging ribbon.

For my filler, I used a star die cut out, hand cut the Starbucks name from the side of a cup, notching the ends to look like a banner, used a little distressing ink and glued both to a toothpick (the star was also painted and glittered, I did NOT paint over the printing on the star).  The small stem of berries with the leaf was found on Etsy.  (I had to do a little creative searching for the berries, they may have been listed as millinery.) The rolled music is a copy of an aged original, tied with bakery string.  Those pieces were hot glued into the cone.  A length of string put through the holes and knotted is for hanging.

For the tops of the trees, I used this star (not shown in my previous posts) made from cup spines.  And, how do you like the red curly tree toppers?  They are the rims of (one cup each) cups with wire threaded through them and painted.  (The wire was from the Dollar Store & Walmart.)

Partial shot of the runner, last seen HERE.  The root sacks were made using some leftover cream burlap that was from another (failed) project.  To finish them off, red ribbon was tied into a bow–that looked kind of plain, so I added additional cut out mermaid medallions to give them a finished look.

The tree toppers are the gold star shown toward the top of the post, one of the winged mermaids, and if you look closely at the photo (below) the top of the smallest tree has a replica of the mermaid’s crown made from the bottom of a cup.

That is pretty much my year in review!  These trees were a lot of fun to put together, I probably worked on them through about April.  When I pulled everything out a couple of weeks ago, there were odds and ends that needed to be completed, especially putting hangers on a lot of them!

Contrary to what it looks like, I did not go to Starbucks everyday.  I did become a little bit of a Starbucks trash hoarder, though!
