Ceiling Medallion Bulletin Board

Okay, admittedly, there may be nothing new with this project idea. It is for a darling new little girl, however.  Namely, my granddaughter!

Baby & QuiltAwww, she’s so cuute, I can’t stand it!

Well, since my blogging is sporadic, you all didn’t know about the arrival of our newest family member.  Healthy Chick was expecting a son in October, and surprise, surprise, she had a little girl, instead!

Healthy Chick likes the soft shabby chic look, so I found some Rachel Ashwell fat quarters for sale on Etsy and made a quilt.  (And, trust me, I used every scrap of fabric I had, which I think was seven FQ.)

Since I made typewriter key artwork for her big brother, along with his jungle quilt, I wanted to do something for her, as well.  I had a ceiling medallion h-a-n-g-i-n-g around for far too long, and I was going to just donate it to get it out of the way.  I like this idea, better, don’t you?

1.  The medallion was spray painted with Ballet Pink–I didn’t glaze it, it just kind of painted that way.  (Is it just me, or is that chair smiling at us???)

2.  Cut two pieces of foam core (with box cutter) to fit inside of “frame’ area.

3. & 4.  Just shows the foam core placed in the back–take it out to add:

5.  Cover foam core with ivory burlap and place back into frame.  You can hot glue it, or use some other glue.  I hot-glued the burlap, but should have used spray adhesive, since it didn’t want to lay really flat when I put it back into the frame.  It shouldn’t be noticeable with several items pinned to it.  You could also use cork instead of foam core–it’s carried at my local grocery store in the shelf-liner section.

6.  (Below)  Be OCD and spray paint your push pins.  Note:  For a small child, you may want to use crisscrossed ribbon so you don’t have to worry about pins.

Here’s the little cutie “checking everything out.”
